Stars Darius Rucker, David Archuleta, Reba McEntire and Gladys Knight have been announced as the entertainment for the annual Independence Day celebration in the nation’s capital.
The event, dubbed “A Capitol Fourth” will be broadcast live on PBS at 8 p.m. on July 4.
The White House’s west lawn is the venue for the entertainment, with actor Jimmy Smits as the host. In addition to the singers, the National Symphony Orchestra is also scheduled o perform.

Darius Rucker, a dedicated supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, is proud to announce the first annual, Darius & Freinds benefit. All Funds raised are to benefit the research and efforts of the hospital.
The event will take place at Nashville’s Wildhorse Saloon on June 7, 2010. Fellow country musicians joining Darius on stage include Radney Foster, Jamey Johnson, Randy Houser and Jake Owen.
Rucker strongly advocates for a cancer free world and was inspired by a trip to the hospital last year to create and host an event for such as wonderful and worthy cause.

The 45th Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, held this past Sunday night, marked Darius Rucker’s first nomination, Top Male Vocalist of the Year. For his first showing, he was facing off against some of country music’s biggest stars, namely George Strait, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Kenny Chesney.
Unfortunately, it was Brad Paisley who took the honors of Top Male Vocalist. Paisley is the only artist to ever win three or more consecutive honors in this category, this year marking his fourth win.

Darius Rucker has signed on to support Brad Paisley on his upcoming “H2O World Tour” this summer. Rucker will join Paisley on the road for eight dates so far, mostly August and September.
In the meantime, you can get Darius Rucker tickets for his sporadic shows this spring, mainly in the midsouth. Rucker is spending most of his time these days finishing up work on this second solo release and waiting to hear the results of this year’s ACM Awards.
You can also catch Darius performing at the Coke Zero Countdown at the NCAA Final Four on April 3rd. Watch the show live at the Coke Zero page on Facebook this Saturday at 1:45pm (EST).

In 2007, Darius Rucker attended the Academy of Country Music Awards as a presenter. Now, he’s attending as a nominee for Top Male Vocalist of the Year.
“My management called and told me to turn on the TV to The Early Show, and I couldn’t believe they read my name,” Rucker said on his official Web site. “I feel so blessed to have been embraced and considered a contender in this format. I’m in the same category as George Strait, Keith Urban, Brad Paisley, and Kenny Chesney. Wow.”
The 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be held at 8 p.m. ET the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on April 18, and will be broadcast live by CBS.

After a tremendously successful 2009, Darius Rucker is now halfway through his second solo album, which is set for release later this year.
Rucker’s first solo album after taking Hootie and the Blowfish to the top of the charts, “Live to Learn,” scored three top-charting hits and a Country Music Association Award for “Best New Artist.”
Until the release, Rucker will stay on the road with Rascal Flatts while circulating with his fourth single, “History in the Making.”
